Fun Things to Do in Manassas, VA This Summer
Manassas, rich in history and centered around a real sense of community, is a great place to live all year—but during the summer months, there’s always something going on in this charming town.
Every Thursday and Friday during the summer, enjoy a historic downtown walking tour; every Saturday morning, interact with living history at Museum at the Market. Take the kids to Civil War Camp or Archaeology and Swim Camp in June, July or August, or participate in the family-friendly National Night Out on August 2.
The annual festivals in Manassas that take place during summer include:
Manassas Heritage Railway Festival. The celebration of NoVa’s railroad history, sponsored by Historic Manassas, Inc., features live performances, train memorabilia and several vendors on-site with refreshments and souvenirs.
Civil War Weekend. Chief Historian John Hennessy will speak at this year’s Civil War Weekend, where you can also watch a reenactment of the 1862 burning of Manassas Junction, see the Civil War Mourning exhibit, and participate in family-friendly activities all three days. The Civil War Weekend begins August 26 and ends August 28.
Fauquier County Summer Events
Fauquier County has a number of great events scheduled for summer 2016. The annual Hot Air Balloon Festival on August 20 takes place at the Flying Circus Airshow Grounds in Bealeton; balloonists launch at 6 a.m. and again between 5 and 7 p.m. Guests can tag along for a ride or simply watch the Flying Circus Airshow at 2:30 p.m. The Flying Circus performs every Sunday during the summer at 2:30 p.m. (gates open at 11 a.m.).
Things to Do in Warrenton, VA
Warrenton hosts the Bluemont Outdoor Summer Concert Series on the lawn of the Warren Green Building each Saturday throughout the summer, and people of all ages turn out to enjoy the fun. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, and $2 for kids under 12.
The Warrenton Pony Show, known as the oldest pony show in America, takes place this summer between June 29 and July 3 at the Warrenton Horse Show Grounds. This A-rated USEF junior and amateur horse show is family-friendly and a large portion of the proceeds go to charity each year.
The Fauquier County Fair, one of the most popular in the area, begins on July 13 and lasts through July 16. Located at the Fauquier County Fairgrounds, the fun starts at 9 a.m. and wraps up at 10 p.m. Live music, games, and plenty of rides make this a great family event.
Things to Do in Haymarket and Gainesville, VA
Live concerts on the Plaza at Promenade every Saturday night in June and July are always popular events. Featuring every genre, from classic rock and Motown to R& B and Jimmy Buffet-style jams, these free concerts start at 6 p.m.
If you’re looking for a relaxing workout rather than upbeat concerts, join your neighbors in Yoga on the Plaza. Onelife Fitness hosts these sunrise yoga classes, which start at 7 a.m. July through August.
